Welcome to Wyodak Resources

Wyodak Resources Development Corp., a subsidiary of Black Hills Corporation, is a surface coal mine near Gillette, Wyo., and is the oldest operating surface coal mine in the United States. Wyodak has reserves of 264 million tons — a 40 year supply at current production levels — in the Powder River Basin.

The Wyodak Mine sits on top of one of the largest coal reserves in the United States -- the Powder River Basin. Wyodak has permitted reserves of 286 million tons, enough to satisfy present contracts for over 90 years. Mining rights to the coal are based on four federal leases and one state lease. A royalty of 12.5% and 9% of selling price is paid on all Federal and State coal respectively.

Coal remains the major fuel source of electric generators in the United States and will remain so for the foreseeable future.

Our web site includes information on the blasting, removal and processing of coal, reclamation of the land from which it comes and historic information on our mine site. We hope you find it interesting. If you have any questions, please contact us.
