Wyodak Resources Development Corporation, a subsidiary of Black Hills Corporation, is a surface mine engaged in mining and processing sub-bituminous coal near Gillette in the northeast corner of Wyoming. Wyodak is believed to be the oldest operating surface coal mine in the nation with an annual production of about three million tons.

The Wyodak Mine sits on top of one of the largest coal reserves in the United States -- the Powder River Basin. Wyodak has permitted reserves for the next fifty or sixty years under present mining technology, conditions and customer bases. Mining rights to the coal are based on five federal leases. A royalty of 12.5% of selling price is paid on all Federal coal.

Coal remains the major fuel source of electric generators in the United States and will remain so for the foreseeable future.

Our website includes information on the blasting, removal and processing of coal, reclamation of the land from which it comes and historic information on our mine site. We hope you find it interesting. If you have any questions, please contact us:
